I have been eating this Zeb Zeb Corn Puffs since I was a kid, the corn snack Zeb Zeb. I stopped patronizing cause it suddenly went out of circulation but it came back to life again after unknown years.
It comes in a 10 gram pack, about 10 to 15 corns per pack for a very affordable price of one peso. The front label is yellow while the back is transparent. Before, the same size of package was plumbed. The contents were three times more. Plus the previous cost was only 50 centavos. Blame the decreased contents and increased cost on inflation.
Most of the contents take the shape of a real corn, others took the shapes of unknown creations. It is a corn indeed, not fake. Ingredients used are selected corn, cheese flavor, vegetable oil, salt, monosodium glutamate and food coloring. They painted the corn with a color yellow.
It has a texture slightly tougher than popcorn. Has a faint corn taste and mild cheese flavor. A small hard particle is noticeable in every grain. Before, almost half fo the package was hard to bite. The hardness caused breakage of my milk teeth. Horaaayyy! This is the new improved version.
I think the name “Zeb Zeb” was coined from the animal “zebra”. The animal I was talking about was clearly illustrated on front label. I am thinking how zebra and corn are related!
Zeb Zeb is a puffed grain. According to wiki it is manufactured by placing whole grain corn in a high steam pressure then followed by a sudden release. The steam will flash out causing the grain to bloat and double in size. Then optional flavoring is added.
